Sources for people instead of for books: So far, we have been using historical sources only to document facts in our books. But our trips to Israel and visits to relatives of murdered Jews have made us realise that the records we research and find in German archives are often unknown to the affected families. Be it birth certificates, registrations of residence, record cards from concentration camps, or photos – it is often the first time that family members of Shoah victims get to see all this. With Benjamin Kirchengast, jetzt und einst has now hired a new freelance employee in Israel. Originally from Vienna, he works to find descendants of those Shoah victims for whom we have found records here in Germany and then makes them available to the families both in Israel and the United States.
